Medea - Bidzina Kvernadze International Music Festival

The festival named after Bidzina Kvernadze will be held for the third time this year with the support of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Youth of Georgia, the Ministry of Culture of Adjara and the Batumi City Hall.

Four evenings are planned as part of the festival. Among them, in Batumi (Batumi Ilia Chavchavadze Professional State Drama Theater), one in Tbilisi (Rustaveli National Theater) and one in Sighnaghi, Bidzina Kvernadze's hometown.

This year's festival will be solemnly opened on June 14 in Batumi with the performance of Luigi Cherubini's opera "Medea". It should be noted that this work will be performed for the first time in Georgia, specifically in Batumi. The part of Medea is performed by the world-renowned best performer of Medea's role, Georgian soprano Yano Alibegashvili. The stage conductor Ann Rendin Overby is invited from Norway, who will work with the local orchestra. It should be noted that Batumi State Chapel participates in the project. Yano Alibegashvili is partnered by tenor Yosef Gipal, soprano Ardita Mann, as well as famous Georgian world opera star Ramaz Chikviladze.

On June 15, also in Batumi, an evening dedicated to the memory of the great Georgian composer Vazha Azarashvili will be held with the participation of famous Georgian musicians and performers. The versions presented by maestro Nika Nikvashvili will be performed on stage by famous musicians Tamar Hvidtsiteli, Giorgi Sukhitashvili and Sofo Khalvashi.

On June 29, the festival will continue with a concert planned in Tbilisi, where maestro Nika Nikvashvili together with Georgian performers will present masterpieces of academic music of Georgian theater and cinema at a gala concert.

The final event of the festival will be held in the hometown of composer Bidzina Kvernadze, Sighnaghi, where listeners will have the opportunity to listen to his immortal creation once again.
