About the performance
The new Georgian musical "Shekhra" was created based on the play "Eclipse of the Sun in Georgia" by Zurab Antonov, a prominent 19th century playwright.
The plot is taken from the life of old Tbilisi.
Tbilisi has always been a multi-ethnic city, where different and independent cultures coexisted, and this is represented in many ways in the Georgian literature of the 19th century, especially in drama.
The action of the characters is determined by the most important event that happened in old Tbilisi - solar eclipse. They try to change in one day, to become noble, because only those who are sinless and married will be saved.
The story richly saturated with songs, dances and humor is a free interpretation of Georgian vaudevilles, which becomes an interesting spectacle for contemporary viewers.
